WELLINGTON, Fla. Mar. 19--The $50,000 International Hunter Derby has drawn 58 entries for the two-round competition starting at about 2 p.m. Thursday with the final under the lights in the International Arena Friday night.
Riders in the class met Wednesday to go over details of the class at the at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival sponsored by Zimmerman Advertising at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
The class that is one of the series of the 2008/2009 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Challenge Derby presented by Dietrich & Co. featuring Walsh Harness & Saddlery.
The jog is scheduled for between 8-10 a.m. Thursday.
The first round course in the Grand Hunter Ring is designed by Bobbie Murphy.
The second round, for which 25 combinations will qualify, will be held in the International Arena beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. The course has been designed by Richard Jeffery.
Riders are required to wear formal attire. Awards will be presented after each round.
Combinations that go on to the second round will be able to hack in the International Arena between 7-8 p.m. Thursday night.
Prize money distribution is: $15,000 for first place, $11,000 for second, $7,500 for third, $5,000 for fourth, $3,000 for fifth, $2,500 for sixth, $2,000 for seventh and $1,500 for eighth through 10th places.
